About Ziegler Park

Ziegler Park is a 4.5-acre greenspace located between the neighborhoods of Over-the-Rhine and Pendleton. Named after Cincinnati’s first mayor, David Ziegler, the park is a city-owned space that recently underwent a transformative renovation and expansion. Prior to the park’s major restoration, it had become a hub of drug activity – neglected, poorly maintained, and riddled with crime.

Sparked by a visit from the Kantor family, looking for a way to honor their community-minded father after his death in 2012, 3CDC approached the City about the possibility of a new vision for Ziegler Park: one that would offer renovated and programmed basketball courts in Milton Kantor’s honor; one that would include a deep-water pool that could be utilized for swim lessons and teams of children recruited from the neighborhood; and one that might offer the beginnings of a solution to the comprehensive problems of surrounding disinvestment.

The City shared this vision – and together, with the Cincinnati Park Board and the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, a team was hired to gather input from the community and form a plan. Over the course of two years, 3CDC presented the plan nearly 40 times to various community groups and residents. Based on the information gathered in these meetings, a new vision for Ziegler Park was formed.

The organizations involved in bringing this vision to reality had partnered once before – on the revitalization of Washington Park. 3CDC, the City, and Cincinnati Parks, as well as design firms Glaserworks, Human Nature, PWWG, and Brandstetter Carroll, and general contractor Turner Construction Company, began the development process in 2013.

Construction on a renovated and expanded Ziegler Park began in January of 2016, and approximately 18 months later, the new vision for Ziegler Park became a reality, as the brand new park re-opened to the public in the summer of 2017. Created with the local community in mind, the renovated park features a new pool, upgraded basketball courts, a children's playground, a game grove, great lawn, and more!
